Delaware County 4-H

Last modified 2008-02-28 12:11

4-H is a community of young people across America who are learning leadership, citizenship and life skills.

Welcome to Delaware County 4-H!

4-H In Delaware County

Delaware County supports about 75 4-H clubs across the county.  These clubs involve almost 1300 youths, ages 5 to 19, and 340 adult volunteers.  Volunteers contribute over 15,000 hours of time to teach life skills such as leadership, decision making and communication skills through project work.  4-H members took over 4,000 projects in 2007.

4-H members also pledge their ". . . hands to larger service. . ." as part of the 4-H Pledge at each club meeting.  The pledge is more than lip service, as clubs reported over 3,000 hours of community service and more than $4000 of donations to various groups and organizations in 2007.  Examples of 4-H club community service include planting flowers at public buildings, working at the Humane Society, visiting elderly, donations to Children's Hospital/Ronald McDonald House, and much more.

Over 125 older youth, ages 14 to 19, serve at teen leaders through being a Camp Counselor, Junior Fair Board member, 4-H CARTEENS presenter or Awareness Team member.  In these positions, the teens plan and conduct programs and activities that reach more than 5,000 people.
